Hello szaemon .

stand on the top bar right click and add to panel,
there you can add to the panel some other network manager, like see that option.

see is that will do the work for you:

use WICD with the network module. Enable it in Configuration > Modules, then add it by right clicking a shelf > configure shelf contents > then add the net module. Now right click the net module and click configure. In the text box below Launch Application on Double-Click, put /opt/wicd/gui.py in. This is way better than Network Manager in GNOME in my opinion.

I appreciate your positive thinking. Unfortunately I can't log into my modem. I have no connection at all. In Ubuntu firefox does not open any pages at all. It says it can't connect.

Moebius wrote:Just out of curiosity now that you have Windows with internet connection, if you boot U.E directly from DVD and simply run it as a live session without installing, do you have internet connection?

Nope, that in fact is why I put Windows back on the machine, but no go... and just so we're clear, I'm not working with Ultimate Edition The video compatibility issue wasn't solved, so I couldn't get Ultimate Edition to run. I'm working with the Alpha version of Ubuntu 9.10 that you gave me.

I just took Windows off to put Ubuntu back on, but it didn't load well. I'll try again tomorrow. I'll also try installing ndiswrapper and see where that gets me.

I was wondering about loading Windows as program that could run in Lynux. I seem to recall someone doing that before.

Amir, thank you for your help. I know you mean well and I have no doubt that the advice you are giving is sound and may even hold the answer to my trouble, but I'm afraid much of what you say goes way over my head. I am unfamiliar with computers, and have difficulty visualizing exactly what it is you are advising me to do. For example:

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend you, but my vocabulary seems to be a bit outdated.

I will install the ndiswrapper and get back to you folks.

Thanks Again for all of your kindness.

Hello szaemon .

one thing you have to know on the Difference between 9.10 to the U.E and that is
very important,9.10 have ext4 file system!
The U.E has ext3 file system!
So if you want to install the U.E-use parted magic and delete the partition of Ubuntu first.
If you have the MS there fine live the MS partition, just delete the Linux partitions.
Sorry that maybe my info for you is kind of High Knowledge, just try to get you there safe.

Hi Amir,

Well I got ndiswrapper downloaded and (following the video)I ran the LSPCI command as well as LSPCI with the -n switch. Not sure if I needed it or not, but I also ran the LSUSB.

WHat does this tell you about my machine?

I guess my Network Card might be this:
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82573E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper) (rev 03)

..and I think the device and vendor ID would be one of these:

01:00.0 0200: 8086:108C (REV 03)
01:00.2 0101: 8086:108D (REV 03)

01:00.4 0C07: 8086:108E (REV 03)

Am I right?
So now, uuummmm... I suppose I can use that information to locate the driver of my card. Let me know if I'm on the right track.

Thanks again for you help.

Thanks Cell. OK, I'll try it. But, uhhh...What's it suppose to do?
Does this have any connection what ndiswrapper that Amir is talking about? Or any connection to the LSPCI results I just posted?
