Broadcom 4311 rev 1 wireless driver.

Postby Killer boi » Thu Jan 19, 2012 2:15 pm

Welp, I decided before I came here, I'd make sure I had all the data I could acquire, as windows wireless drivers doesn't seem to work for me after Ultimate Edition 2.9. I've gotten it to acknowledge there's a wireless card, but I'm not sure which firmware to get. The STA drivers came by default, but apparently somewhere along the lines of what I've been doing, I've removed those. But, heres all the output I would believe would be required, I'm not 100% sure, if you need something else, let me know. I would also like to say, my laptop has no internet access, the ethernet port hasn't worked for quite some time, so if I need to download something I will be getting it on my desktop and transferring it via USB.

Easy fix. On Ubuntu 11.04 and later, and all systems based on them, the STA driver is broken for the BCM4311. If you have ethernet access to the Internet, just plug in and
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer
Once it finishes, just restart OR you can instead
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe b43
Wait a few moments and connect.

If on restart it's not automatically enabled, modprobe the driver again in order to use the driver, then
Code: Select all
gksudo gedit /etc/modules
Add "b43" without quotes to the end of that file, then save and exit it.

I really don't know what to say here, I've installed firmware-b43-installer, I've reset, and when I did gksudo gedit /etc/modules "b43" without quotes of course, is already there. But when I click on the network manager it still says
"wireless networks, device not ready (firmware missing)"

And I guess you might have missed it, my laptop has no internet access as the ethernet port hasn't worked for quite some time.

I broke down and bought an additional card when my wireless went out, a USB plug which works great, I think you might want to look into an ethernet card for your lappy if they are still available. I Know this doesn't help your current situation tho :(

Download four latest packages (dkms, patch, fakeroot, bcmwl)

dkms link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... -1_all.deb

patch 64bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... _amd64.deb
32bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... 1_i386.deb

fakeroot 64bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... _amd64.deb
32bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... 1_i386.deb

bcmwl 64bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... _amd64.deb
32bit link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... 5_i386.deb

Install these packages (don't double up the 32 and 64 bit versions) and see if you have success.

Cheers.

Sadly, no luck there, nothing seems to have changed as far as I can tell.
