Postby markusmunch » Sun May 02, 2010 6:52 pm

Posted here before for 2.5 on the same issue, just wondering if the workaround with GDM2.20 will work? the link to the previous post is: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=4377

edit, just tried with this result:
munch@munch-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install gdm-2.20
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package gdm-2.20
munch@munch-laptop:~$ cd /etc/gdm
munch@munch-laptop:/etc/gdm$ sudo sed 's|X11R6/||' gdm.conf >/tmp/gdm.conf
sed: can't read gdm.conf: No such file or directory
munch@munch-laptop:/etc/gdm$ sudo mv /tmp/gdm.conf .

No sorry GDM2.20 is not compatible with "Lucid", You have to use python GDM2 setup ! be sure you have xsplash installed through sysnaptic for python GDM2 setup to change login wall paper.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gdm2setup/gdm2setup
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python-gdm2setup

Cheers Johnny, will try your suggestions later. Any news on a dedicated Ultimate Ed IRC group yet?

I tried this and couldn't get it to work. I put Lucid on an old HP with a Celeron processor to test in a working environment as opposed to the live disk. It's slow but works . . . kinda sorta. It's great for a while - then desktop icons or the panel will disappear - so I know it's not terribly stable. The xslpash login box totally sucks IMO. I tried GDM2 on 2 different clean installs and absolutely nothing changes. I'm really disappointed with Lucid. Maybe time for another distro? Or is TheeMahn going to find a way to get rid of xsplash??
