Hello, well that partly worked, in that the ext drive will show up as a mounted drive on the other computer, and so will the shared folder I created on that ext drive. But when I click on either one I still get the error message 'Failed to mount Windows Share'. Landshark doesn't see either one. I still can't create a link, and I still get the Permissions can't be determined when I right click on that ext drive. Funny thing is that Compiz was turned off when I restarted.

Hello, I suppose it could help me, but I think I will give up, the info is not that important, to go to all that trouble. I think it would be easier for me to download all of the data to another computer with a big HD, reformatt it and add the info I really need back to it. That ext HD has been attached to many different systems and also used with retrospect at one time. (ie, systems OS's that it was attached too; XP, VISTA, MAC OS 9 AND X, MINT, DREAM, UBUNTU, Ultimate Edition, SAYBOYON, that I can think of at the moment. Windows 7 says the drive file system need repaired?!? I told 7 to leave it alone.
Thanks for you help, I have learned some new things about Samba/file sharing.
