can i upgrade from ubuntu 8.10 to Ultimate Edition 2.3?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.3

can i upgrade from ubuntu 8.10 to Ultimate Edition 2.3?

Postby gloxdog » Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:00 pm

hi.
i have just successfully installed ubuntu 8.10 on my acer aspire one notebook via an usb-stick,
since it has no cd/dvd drive.

i could easily do just the same with Ultimate Edition 2.3, but the thing is that my usb-stick is just a little too small for the Ultimate Edition 2.3 ISO.

so, is there any way i can upgrade my ubuntu 8.10 to ultimate edition 2.3?

any point's in the right direction, and i would be thankfull!

Hello gloxdog and welcome to the forums, Well as I see it Looks like your gonna need a bigger stick ! :D or may be a external DVD/player/burner, As Ultimate Edition 2.3 Is 9.04 jaunty, AND has It,s own integral upgrades, That are not a basic part of a Ubuntu stock install, It is all way's recommended to do a fresh install of Ultimate Edition,As When TheeMahn and the team build Ultimate Edition The new release is all way's fresh, not a hack of the previous release! :D and It more than likely will have its own integral upgrades,This Is one of the reasons we tell everyone to back up there home data often ! I would also recommend using the advanced search option here on the forum, As there are several other posts on this subject, as well as how to back up, install ,and restore some of your basic needs , how ever If you are really stuck with what you have, you can all way's make your Ubuntu Look Like Ultimate Edition via theme's and icon changes and upgrades, the theme's are available here under theme's and logo's , also available at Gnome-Look, Others may have more input on this, But that's the way I see it ! :ugeek: :D Good Luck my friend ! come back and visit often !

Hi,

I would like to put it this way - Serena and Venus Williams are both from same countries, same parents but are dynamically different. Same is with various Linux distros. They might have common base but not necessarily everything or same copy. Hope I was clear bro'

Do a new clean install and enjoy !!!

Good luck. :)

Just a quick addition, If you want to get as close as possible to Ultimate Edition 2.3, install Ubuntu 9.04 instead of 8.10. 9.04 should fit on your stick quite nicely - then go crazy with Ultamatix as per cell´s suggestion.

Cheers.

You could also try this

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... /FromLinux

and then just boot into Ultimate Edition 2.3 format the ubuntu 8.04 installation then resize the Ultimate Edition 2.3 partition

Last year I got an 8gig Corsair usb flash drive for a tick under $20 by using Google Checkout for the first time - they gave a $10 discount for new customers. You might consider using them to process your transaction if you have not previously used them.
