Ultimate edition theme pack

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.3

Ultimate edition theme pack

Postby nynoah » Thu Jul 16, 2009 3:47 pm

Not sure if this was a mess up or if it was intentional. But I downloaded the new Ultimate Edition 2.3 theme pack from Gnome-look.org It kinda messed with my machine. I reset my default folder vewer to Dolphin. So now I am using Dolphin on Gnome side. How would I go about reseting this back away from Dolphin?

Well the themepack deb screwed it up worse than I thought. It also killed my internet connection. I just figured that out after I rebooted. I have to do a fresh install now. I know its experimental. But I have never had a problem in the past using Theemans Deb packages before. You may want to take that off of Gnome-look.org . It might cause people to think ill of a great distro.

HI, sorry to hear of your problem ,I don't think anything was intentional , I have downloaded the 2.3 theme a couple of times, in fact I was around the 200+th down-loader the first time, and have it on all my rigs ! and never had a problem.with any linux distro there is always the chance something may go wrong , thats why they always say back up your important documents! until you get used to exactly how your system operates you might have to re-install several times! me, when I first started , I re-installed 2.1 about 30 times ! but I was trying to get those dang-blasted ATI drivers to work! and I have had to re-install 2.2 about 6 times,I'm getting pretty good at it !,of coarse it was all do to me "TWEAKING" just a little to much! :D don't let it get you down, consider it a learning experience ! :) ,hope you get everything up and running smooth, and back up your stuff...OFTEN! <BREW>

No I understand. I know its experimental. I just wanted to let others know about my issues. Theeman needs to hear that anyways. Better to hear from me. I am more understanding than some of the noobs. I actually have my partitions divided in a better way. I have / as ext4 and home/ seperate at ext3. That way can reinstall at will with no worry of loss of data. I already reinstalled. Which will be the 10th time this week. I tried to also get then newest bleeding edge kernal working too. That did not go over well. I don't suggest trying that for all people. But it might just have been the computer I am using. I find it odd that when I try to see my xserver details with 2.2 it tells me there is no Xserver running. Then when I installed the .30 kernal it killed my xserver. I guess I still have much to learn. But sometimes the only way to learn is to break it some more.

I just wonder why it reset to dolphin and killed my wireless driver from a deb package meant for looks.

Was the theme "crash" after the new kernel, and tweaking your system?Or was it on a fresh install,or at least an install with the stock kernel, and setting in tacked?

After a fresh install. Strange it did it again. Even after I reloaded. This time after I loaded KDE it defaulted again to Dolphin in Gnome. I still have my wifi. We actually let me reboot to make sure.

Strange things afoot.

Well Wifi works..... atleast that is good. damn you dolphin. there is a place in KDE to chose what file browser to use. So far I have not been able to find that in Gnome.

Ok I fixed it. I fixed it the ham handed way. But its done. I just Gksudo Nautilus and deleted almost all my hidden files. Then found the hidden trash and dumped that too. I then rebooted and the system reset itself.

Are you running on ext4?If you are it sounds like an ext4 bug(but I can be way off here.Just sounds like something that happen to me,and installing the theme at the time was a flook).Check out the ext4 wiki...particularly the ubuntu section.
