Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.2

Upgrading

Postby lusid20 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:27 pm

I'm sure this has been asked before. But with the release of 2.3 not in the sooooo distant future, when it is finally released will I be able to upgrade from 2.2? Or will I have to completely uninstall 2.2 then install 2.3? My only fear is I do not want a 2.2 and a 2.3 partition.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Hello, While you will be able to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3, most people will tell you not to do that. The reason is that you might run into more problems that way, it is a gamble! If you are using a 2nd computer and not your main unit, you can certainly try if you want and not lose anything. If it is your only computer than it would be safer to back up any data from your "Home" folder, and start over with a new install of 2.3. When you install the OS it will ask if you want to overwrite everything on the HDD, or make a dual boot by squeezing your first install to make room for the 2.3 partition, it is your choice!

If this isn't the info you wanted please say so.

It is not recommended as "dathem" said. We always recommend doing a clean installation for every new release. If you want to play with Ultimate Edition 2.3, you can test out the live cd or you can always install it in Virtualbox & if you like, do a clean install!!

If you decide to take the plunge....make sure you uninstall your graphic drivers!!!For some reson nvidia, ati, and possibly others won't compile with a new kernel upon a upgrade.....hence all the blank screens, and glitches when one does.

Hi all, long time no speak.

Bit of a question here.
I am currently usin Ultimate Edition 1.8...sure its good but I'm one of those that I want the latest and greatest.
I know it is recommended that you use a clean install but in my opinion it's he who dares wins. So I'm just going to try and update. Mainly due to the lack of DVD's lying around.
The question is 2 fold, firstly, I read on another post that Ultimate Edition is also available in CD form, is this true for 2.2 or not because the link posted on it is dead? As for the second part, let's assume there are no cd forms available and I am going to simply have to update, what am I to do AFTER the distro upgrade. How do I turn the 1.8 running on Ubuntu Jaunty into a 2.2 machine. You know, all the software etc, is there a script or is it simply a case of updating the repositories?
Anyone able to shed some light on it for me?

Thanks
Arthur

Hello xtremesupremacy3.

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add the list for the 9.04 to the sources list:

deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty main universe multiverse restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-security universe main multiverse restricted
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates universe main multiverse restricted
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-backports universe main multiverse restricted

then save and exit.

open terminal:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
