For buschbarber: I'm just curious, have you ever tried just using the tv as your monitor? without the twinview and the other monitor hooked up? To see if you could get the resolutions right without worrying about 2 at once?

As I said a couple of posts back, I have just reinstalled Ultimate Edition 2.2, because I was stuck in Terminal Mode with a broken Xserver. I installed the 185 drivers, successfully, for the first time, because I had a clean system.

I am just pointing that out because before I reinstalled, I was able to copy my backup xorg.conf, to the correct directory, from Terminal Mode, and at least get Xserver working again, before I made the decision to reinstall.

This means I should be able to recover, from any changes you guys might make to my xorg.conf, if you send me an updated version to test. I already tried once, unsuccessfully, to add some options to my xorg, and it broke the Xserver. I have loads of patience, but I think I would waste less time if someone more competent were adding the appropriate lines to the file to try and fix the problem.

I can always reinstall Ultimate Edition if all else fails.

As far as TwinView, I only have the DVI to HDMI cable running to the HDTV. I do not have the monitor hooked up and the Nvidia-Settings are set to Single Display, as you will see from the attached smapshots. I have no idea why the xorg file says I have TwinView set up. It is Greyed out in Configure menu so I cannot change it, and there is no device connected to the other DVI port on graphics card. There is just a DVI to VGA adapter.

I just built this PC a few months ago because I was totally frustrated with my older P4 machine as it had Integrated Intel Onboard adapter as well as the Nvidia 8400 PCI adapter and no version of Linux would boot when the BIOS was set to PCI instead of Onboard. I spent months trying to get that to work before I built this new PC. Most of my old posts, on Ubuntu forums, refer to that old PC.

I never had a problem with getting a full display on my monitor and I am sure that if I hooked it up now, it would work fine. I am spoiled with this 50" HDTV display. The Windows Nvidia drivers work fantastic with it, so I am sure we can get Ultimate Edition to work, as well.

Here are the final snapshots of the Nvidia-Settings. As I said before, if I go up to 1600, I start to lose part of the bottom of the Desktop and if I go to full 1900x1080, I lose an inch on all four sides due to Overscan.

The Windows driver allows me to Resize the Display and I can Shrink it to fit by moving Scroll Bars in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Have you tried the "Aspect Ratio Scaled" button showed on your last picture when using 1900x1080 ?

As soon as I choose Aspect Ratio Scaled or Streched, the Desktop expands and I lose all 4 sides again. Even at 1440x900 I have to choose Centered.

I have had a similar problem with a 42" flatscreen TV, but that was a "onboard intel grafic". When choose Aspect Ratio I got acces to two sliders - horrisontal and vertical - and had to set them to both 60% (if I remember correct)
There fore I presumed you had similar options :)

I find that the TV controls are fairly limited and do not seem to help correct the situation. The PC controls only apply to the VGA connector on the back of the TV. I tried connecting the PC to the VGA port on the TV. First of all, it does not support more than 1300x760 or so res. I am going from DVI on the Graphics card to HDMI on the HDTV. The controls are somewhat different for that port.

There are only two HDMI ports on the HDTV. One is being used by the PC and the other is being used by the HD Cablebox.

When I reboot in Windows 7 64bit, the display fits perfectly and I never have to change the HDTV settings.
