Go to hardware drivers and see if you have the correct driver for your gpu. Or right click on your desktop click
Change Desktop Background and see if you can enable full effects. If you have already done that try re-installing compiz-fusion. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Thanks for your replies. My laptop is packard bell ipower Q005. It's spec: cpu core 2 quad 9000, 4gb ddr3 ram, VGA geforce 9800M gts 1gb. I tried íntall the lastest driver of the card, enable full effect , reinstall compiz, or even install compiz manager simple, but it did not work. I install mandriva xtreme 3 but the burn effect did not work, don't know what happen. :D

Alright, time to pull out all the stops. Boot up.
Go to hardware drivers and install the recommended one.
Hit Ctrl Alt F1
Type sudo nvidia-xconfig
Hit Ctrl Alt F7
Then try enabling destop effects.
You may have to hit Ctrl Alt Backspace and Ctrl Atl F7 again
If that doesn't work
Hit Ctrl Alt F1
Type sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Under the video section of xorg.conf it should have Nvidia under driver. If it does not try a different driver using the same procedure.
If you are runnig sli there is an added step or two.
