I am a newbie to linux and am having trouble downloading Ultimate Edition on my desktop, installed with no problems on lap top. My desktop is a HP with AMD 64 Athlon, ATI graphics. Live dvd will not run, starts to load up then brings me to the sign in screen when I havent done anything yet. Tried to install OEM, same result. How can I get past this to be able to install on my desktop. FYI same problem with 1.8 wont let me install either version. Any and all help will be greatly apprecited. Thank you in advance

If you are able to load or install on your Laptop and not the Desktop...sounds like a hardware problem..like maybe your optical drive...on your Desktop...
PS...welcome to Ultimate Edition.... ;)

ok, I was talking to a friend about it and he thought maybe it might have something to do with the processor, but kinda hard to tell when your talking to somebody over the phone and describing to them whats going on lol

Hello cowboy...your processor is fine a very compatible with Ultimate Edition...
If you would have not stated you have used the DVD to install on a Laptop..I would of posted back..check your md5sum of your download and when you burn your copy do it at the lowest speed you can ...usually 4x or lower and verify the burn...that still may not be a bad idea either...
Note: we could use a little more info on your system also...help us help you... :)
Edit:...Why not download 2.0 and get the latest version... ;)

i am in the process of reformatting my hard drive on the desktop, and restoring it to day one, and get all the updates for my drivers again, when that is done i can get the rest of the info off the computer. But i have an older tower that is a vpr matrix with windows xp and the dvd will load up on that tower no problem. That tower has an intel pentium 4 with a 90 or 100 gig hard drive and 512k of ram, would that tower work with Ultimate Edition 1.9 or would i have to go with something older for that tower, or a different program for it

im going to assume you meant 512meg of ram not 512k. if that is the case i dont see any problem at all. ive ran it on a sempron 1.8ghz with 40gig hard drive and 256mb ram. was it slow? yes. but still very usable (with a little patience) for basic things (browsing, music, email). the install may run slow as its all ran from ram. but after the install i dont see any problems at all.

You may want to set up your partitions first before you try to install. Make sure you set up a 1 gig swap partition. I have a PIII with 320 megs of ram and that is the only way I can get Ultimate to install.

Just a thought:
Make sure your Bios has Detect boot virus Disabled (if you have an option similar to this)
Sometimes the bios is set to disable overwriting the MBR.
