Problem installing alien ( Solved)

On my Ultimate Edition 1.8 machine...open synaptic.. search for alien..found..mark for installation, shows changes applied, and marked installed...applications...add/remove programs...did search for alien...no results found...brain fart! what am I missing? :oops:

Did you try installing it by Add/remove..there is about forty pkgs..if you also enable alien browser..doing a download right now..

Yeah, that's what I don't understand! It shows up in synaptic as installed, even removed and re-installed, but when you go to add/remove programs, and search, it's not there???

In add/remove check off all available downloads..it will be there then..

What we have here is a failure to communicate :lol: :lol: I'm looking for "alien" which is a bin. converter that converts RPM to DEB files...I have alien arena...thanks though :D

edit: Ok, here's a question, the file for this program is in usr/bin, so it is on the computer,could it be that it just a command line program? operated from terminal? with no gui? so I'm looking for some sort of user interface that does not exist?

I've used it before myself. All I did was google. Everything worked out good. This isn't the same place I went to originally, but it should work for you.

Yes, it is nice to have! Its saved my but a couple times now. Hope you can get it worked out though, as you said - it is a good thing to have on hand.
Although, I've run into more problems trying to get things in 64-bit than I've had trying to get the .deb for something.
