Need Help : Acer Aspire 4530

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Need Help : Acer Aspire 4530

Postby kreyZ » Sun Aug 10, 2008 11:30 pm

I've tried installing UU 1.8 using the addition after "--", but the installation stops in 90% when detecting hardware...
My computer freezes and can't be controlled, only my caps lock indicator blinking.
Can't be restarted, have to press power long to make the computer shut off.
After I turn it back on, it directly enter Win XP (I use dual OS) wthout LILO option to Ubuntu... Looks like the installation just failed.
Anybody experience this too? Please help...

Hi SaddleTramp.. thanx for the welcome...
I already tried the solution : Press F6 and then type after "--" all_generic_ide floppy=off irqpoll and successfully installed until 90%, then suddenly it freezes...

...then you might try the "noacpi"...it could be that your laptop power settings are hanging you up...also a few other things in the "Newbie's Corner" under "Laptop..." that may get you going...I haven't had a laptop in years now so a little rusty..and even then I was running all M$...all I can suggest is what I'm finding in our forum and Google...but there's others here in Ultimate Edition with laptop's (who are more up to date on them) and I'm sure will be along shortly...just hang in there, somebody here will get you going :D 8-)

Hello and welcome to Ultimate Edition...Acer laps...oh wow,,have one and really like it..but for some reason it does not like Linux..(it does now)
First of all..what flavor of 1.8 are you running? 32 bit or 64 bit? (might try the other)
Meaning, if you are trying to install 64 bit..try 32 bit..
Have you any USB ports in operation..wireless mouse..or a fan cooling system,,?
Lilo..?..not sure on this one, I always use Grub..
Just one note,,Ultimate Edition 1.8 and Hardy 8.4 are the only Linux Distros that will install right on my Lap..either flavor also..wireless was one of the prob..(remedy here, in this forum)

Still no luck..
I've tried everything to install Ubuntu 1.8 64 Bit..
Allways freezes at 90%, detecting hardware, than just freeze there and leave only the Caps Lock Indicator blinking...
I have to press the power button to turn it off.. and when it back on.. it started directly with Win XP.. no LILO/GRUB menu...
Look's like I still have to wait for the next release...

Hmmm...have you tried installing 1.8x32?? Also, if you want to try x64 again, unplug everything external of the laptop...this completely eliminates anything external interfering with the install ...if it still hangs, the next step would be to look at your hardware setup in the Bios. If you have modified anything in the Bios (with the exception of changing the bootup config to start from CDROM), then reset your Bios (set the bootup config back to CDROM as the first device), and try that...hang in there, we'll try to get something figured out here :D 8-)

I think it's hanging while trying to detect your wireless. Atheros has gotten a real black eye for their lack of support and compatibility, particularly in the Linux community.

If you can disable your wireless in the Bios, try the install again. (still using the noacpi and all_generic_ide floppy=off irqpoll

If your Bios doesn't have that option, you should be able to physically disconnect it and reconnect it after the install has successfully completed.
