Yeah I thought so. I'll try to keep that in mind if I notice 2 help threads converging in context again. How picky can I get? Now I'm nnot only gonna' be asking people to help me, but also telling where they have to go to do it.

OK, so how much does this increase my noob rating? I have never changed anything in my computer except a hard drive. So I think AI need to start a new thread asking about how install a card and what to consider when buyibg a card. Now questions like that have nothing at all to do with Ultimate Edition or even Ubuntu. Should they be placed within this site? If so, where? If not, do you know a better site for them?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks.
I could, but is the General Discussion Forum a proper place for me to be asking for advice. I'm leaning quite heavily on the kind souls here like your self, I don't want to overstep....hmmm...guess I'll have to read it a bit more and get a feel for what kind of topics are appreciated.
Thanks Again.

You could review hardware here first: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=53
Then, if not satisfied, post there or General Discussion...either would be ok :) Prolly safe to say any Vid card with nVida would do fine  8-)

Can you boil water without burning it? How are you with the whole toast thing?
If you can swap a HDD, you can install a video card. Trust me on this.

szaemon wrote:... what to consider when buyibg a card.

1. What do you want this card to do, and
2. How much can you spend?

Those are the operative questions.

Buy nVidia. That's my advice without knowing the answer to either question. The answers to those questions will help pin down which card you'll want.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.

Thanks at least there I can learn the full extent of how ignorant I am...

If I am going to upgrade them I'm going for more than the minimum. I need 3D characters that I can pose and print.

Re: Can't see video

Postby szaemon » Tue Sep 09, 2008 1:09 pm

In an effort to try and keep my assistance requests organized, I am posting here in this rather outdated (but relevant) topic.

My Drivers and Utilities Disk for VIA/AMD Chipset Mainboard Version V1.70B-2R has recently returned from travels dark and deep beneath the foundations of my world. I popped it in the DVD Drive and it did not auto run. I hit the setup.exe and nothing happened. Using this would be the proper way of installing the video driver, as opposed to ripping out gnash like I did last time...wouldn't it? I'm pretty sure it would install if I ran it in wine, but would it stop running the video drivers as soon as I closed wine?

Any suggestions on how to make use of the disk?
Thanks

Well, I don't think that disc is going to help you much on the drivers for your video setup unless your installing it on Windows or the disc has Linux drivers on it. I've tried to setup drivers via WINE before and had no luck. Sorry. I'm not the pro on WINE around here though, so there may have been something that I did wrong in the first place.
