apc15x wrote:Well I think that Baphomet put a curse in his post on me. LOL I downloaded it with no problems (just 30 minutes).
Then I loaded up the live DVD and it worked fine. The problem when I hit the install icon it started asked the question and asked me which drive I wanted to load it on. I am dual booting with XP on the first 80 gig and Ultimate on the second drive. When it goes to start partitioning it gets to 15% and then locks up. I cannot use the mouse or anything, I have to shut down and restart. 1.7 installed without any problems before and I have the same hardware. Anyone have any ideas???? :(

Seems as though you might have gotten a bad download. Did you check the MD5SUM and burn the disk at a low speed?

Revro wrote:so can i upgrade now with the upgrade icon to 1.8 32b from 1.7 32b through?

I don't beileive this will be possible. There are too many differences between 1.7 and 1.8 as far as memory management and etc. I could be wrong and surprised if TheeMahn decides to do it, but don't hold your breath.

If it passes md5sum, you can download it 1000 times and it will always be bad. Sounds like a bad burn or a failing dvd burner. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I am sorry. MD5SUM is there to make sure you did indeed download a good copy. If just one number or letter is off then you do indeed have a bad download. It is infallible, it uses crc (cyclic redundancy checks) to calculate a unique number if the numbers are the same, all I can suggest is a new burner or media. Burn at 2X if you can.

Previous post: As far as upgrade... I have no intention of writing such as I know the number of people I would lose would be tremendous, cab has gotten away with doing so, but is far from a newbie & does not care if he loses everything. I will not force anything on the users. I am here for the people.

Once again sorry,

TheeMahn

Try burning at uber-slow speed, as suggested; 1x.. 2x... Slow as you can.

Also, I'm hovering over the idea of the 80 connector/40 pin cable solution that I was given here. For $5 it worked a miracle for me when nothing else would. Only thing that stops me is that when I was having problems I couldn't get anywhere near partioning/formatting. Still... Might be worth a shot.

See this pic:
Image
80 Connector ............... 40 Connector

The difference are those additional 40 wires that don't actually connect to anything... They just diffuse distortion and totally clean up the signal noise that your CD/DVD creates using a 40 connector cable.

In short, you want the 80 connector version. I got one at my local computer warehouse place and it set me back a whopping five bucks. Once I swapped the cable, Ultimate Edition flew off the DVD like some glorious bird taking flight... It was beautiful. Sounds crazy, I know... But I don't argue with what works.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.
