Error installing Ultimate Edition 1.7 on laptop

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

Error installing Ultimate Edition 1.7 on laptop

Postby xtn » Fri Feb 29, 2008 2:03 pm

Hey

I have a Asus A8Js laptop and I’ve been trying to install Ultimate Edition 1.7 for the past hour or so...
I formatted my hard drive using GParted and made the new partition an ext3. I then tried to install it to that partition but I keep getting an [errno 5] input/output error.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
xtn

Did you format the entire drive or just a partition to ext. 3? Also, are you trying to install it using "manual" configuration or "automatic" using largest continuous free space? Did you check the MD5SUM on the iso file you downloaded?

Yeah i formatted the entire drive and i tried all the options of installing it.

Is the MD5SUM of the ISO supposed to be 59847bb83384524a9c3ab577b23f8f69 ?
If so I've got a faulty copy; 8c814a27637c695658dcd8f40f163a8d

I downloaded from the main server the first time so should i try a torrent now??

Well, your guess is as good as mine on that one! I don't know how this really happens, but it does :( Good Luck.
EDIT!!!: Where did you get that MD5SUM from ? I checked here and it is something totally different! Are you installing a different version of Ultimate Edition? You sure its 1.7? which 1.7 is it .. Gnome only or Gnome/KDE version?
Check out the main site for this distro.

Just taking a swag here, but did you try to burn the ISO at a low rate? I've seen this happen so many times with ISO's. If you burn them greater than 4x speed they often do not work right.

my two cents.

almost forgot, try using the NOAPCI switch. Laptops are funny that way it seems.

problem solved.
I downloaded from the mirror site, burnt it at 4x and it installed with no problems at all.
Now i'm having trouble getting visual effects to work but i'll address it in another topic.

Thanks for your help :D
