Themes, colors, and the like

Postby Sparky » Fri Feb 08, 2008 9:01 pm

It seems like I can't change most things like. When I change the pointer, the default one still stays on the desktop, and the one I picked only works for other windows, but the loading one is for a different one (I picked the redglass, but the the loading cursor changes to the ComicCursors-Black-Large). I can't change the Window Boarders either, the same one is always chosen, and some other things stay unchanged as well. How do I change these things?

Oh, also the windows have a roll-up effect when double-clicking on the titlebar even though Maximize is selected. Is there a way to get it to maximize/restore instead?

That is a result of Compiz Fusion running. Dont double click on the title bar if and you won't have this effect. If you don't like it, you could browse through CCSM to find out how to turn this feature off.

Ah ok, I'll play around with that. Is there an way to get the themes to actually work though? It's really starting to irritate me. It seems to work fine when no visual effects are used, so I'm assuming it's because of Compiz-Fusion, but I only have the one that came with the package, and Ubuntu Ultimate Edition gives a bunch more extra themes so having CF interfere seems just stupid:/

You can have both Compiz and Emerald running at the same time and they work flawlessly together. If you would like more options with themes, just find one from gnomelook.org and d'ld it then open "Change desktop background>>themes and drag/drop into window. You should be good to go. There is all kinds of good sutff out there. I would highly suggest looking at ZeroPrimes themes right here in the forum though! Look in the Themes, Wallpapers, Art section and you'll be stoked. Zero puts his stuff up on gnomelook.org too, so you'll find it there also. For you info, ZeroPrime is responsible for the "RedGlow" theme that your looking at on your 1.7 distro :D He also has a gloss black theme that I'm very fond of that I use in my 1.6's :D

Well no see that's the problem, when I select a different theme, it doesn't change the cursor unless I'm on FireFox, the Window Boarders don't change at all, all that really changes is the taskbar, but a theme is supposed to do more than that. :/

To change the cursor color or style..click compiz fusion icon in Applications,,system tools..will give you a icon on the top panel near the right..right click the icon,,go down to select window manager and chose Metacity change your icon style while in metacity. I also dragged the Compiz Fushion Icon from System Tools and placed it on the top panel..some programs work better if you are not on the Compiz settings..like the Graphics.. ;)

PS in Synaptic they also have a pretty bad cursor theme called chameleon I have the white pearl going now..pointer casting a shadow with a animated revolving hour glass also casting a shadow..sick.. ;)

Ah thank you, that did the trick. Now if I could figure out how to get that stupid roll-up gone, but thanks a lot. I was starting to go crazy trying to figure out what was wrong.

You, I already did that but I already have it set for maximize, but then I used the same method as you mentioned above for the second time, and that trick worked for the second time. Not sure how or why that happened, but thank you, evidently that method works. :)
