You can have both Compiz and Emerald running at the same time and they work flawlessly together. If you would like more options with themes, just find one from gnomelook.org and d'ld it then open "Change desktop background>>themes and drag/drop into window. You should be good to go. There is all kinds of good sutff out there. I would highly suggest looking at ZeroPrimes themes right here in the forum though! Look in the Themes, Wallpapers, Art section and you'll be stoked. Zero puts his stuff up on gnomelook.org too, so you'll find it there also. For you info, ZeroPrime is responsible for the "RedGlow" theme that your looking at on your 1.7 distro
He also has a gloss black theme that I'm very fond of that I use in my 1.6's
