Compiz Fusion not starting?

I installed the graphics drivers but compiz fusion wont start...

I tried clicking on "compiz fusion icon" in system but nothing happens...what am i doing wrong now....

EDIT: Dope thats just an icon link lol, How do i start compiz....

EDIT3: I installed compizconfig so the manager loads but now could i ask theeman or daddy x to post an export of their config that i can use... It didn't automatically load one.

EDIT4: I turned on burn and reflections but i'm seeing lag... I have an 8600 GTS and AMD 2x 6000+should this happen ?!

EDIT5: Whenever I open a window the title bar is hidden by the top bar, how do i stop that... (Annoyed by edits yet? sorry )

As soon as I get some time I'll come back and set you straight Prob. not till Monday, but we'll see. Maybe Sunday. I just did a fresh install of 1.7 and am setting it all up. I wiped my whole computer and installed 1.6,1.7 & VISTA (P.O.S.!!!) so I've got a lot of tuning to do

Open up Synaptic search for compiz your configuration should look like this, if I remember correctly Compiz Manager was not installed I had to hit the upgrade logo and click compiz, such a short time ago but the U&R's left me a little confused.

i can only hlep w/ edit5:

idk why this happens. i havent had that problem in some time. but i always right clicked the entry in the bottom bar for that window. click move then jus move the window so that the title bar is revealed. after i do it once it usually stays fixed. hope this helps. cheers

I had to install ccsm (run Synaptic Package Manager and do a search for compiz) there are 2 different ones, use the one: compizconfig-settings-manager. Once installed you can just alt+F2: ccsm

Use Synaptic >> search>> fusion-icon then click edit>> "fix broken packages". Also if you want to make it run use alt+F2 and enter fusion-icon or just go to System Tools>> Compiz Fusion Icon. I'll warn you now about what its been doing to me now .... It is messing with compiz running and turns everything into a jittery mess for somereason, might just be my system.

You don't want them ... lol You should play with it (ccsm) and get it all dialed in the way YOU like it. If you need to know what does what, goto the Compiz Wiki. Its pretty useful.

You shouldn't see any performance decrease with a card like that. I would say that your video drivers are not installed correctly. open a terminal: alt+F2>> gnome-terminal & enter: envy -t That should get you squared away. You'll have to restart X for the drivers to take effect.

If your windows are getting placed in the wrong location There is prob. a few settings that are not quite setup correctly in ccsm (compiz-configuration-settings-manager). I would start out by looking in the "place windows", "put windows" and "move windows". Go through all the tick box's and you should get it straightened out. I think just the "general settings" section might have a setting in there as well. Just put the cursor over the tick-box's for a description.

I figured it out so i think ill post the fixes here since i had the same problem installing Ultimate Edition on a friends comp I built as well as every previous Ultimate Edition installation I've done..

First of all CCSM wasnt installed by default :/
The window placement was caused by Move windows and Place windows not being enabled.

But about the lag thing, do any of you have a sharp drop in fps when you have the burn animation on... I would think my graphicks card would be powerful enought o do it easily....
Using the compiz benchmark plugin the fps drops from 330fps to 18 when i minimize things w/ burn...

OUCH! That's not good I haven't tried glxgears while doing that, I have dual X running simultaneously so my numbers are extremely high and not very accurate.

Yar... Then again when you think about it burn is rendering 1000 flames lol, Though the lag doesn't get a whole lot worse when i tell it to render 10000 or whatever the max is....
