Well, I would change it! The worst that can happen is that you would have to go back and change it back, thats it! painless. I think that this is why your install did not take. this looks very suspicious to me. This looks like the cause of the failed install.
EDIT!!!!: This is the cause of your problems! I just found in on Acers site! Heres a copy/paste from there site.

The extra hard disk partitions called AcerData and Acer_Servic are included on the factory-loaded software for the purpose of using D2D Recovery. D2D Recovery is a method of restoring the notebook to factory configurations without using Recovery CD's.

Although these hard disk partitions are provided, the D2D recovery process is not supported on these models and can be removed.

How to remove the extra hard disk partitions:

1. Enter BIOS by pressing F2 during boot when prompted at the bottom of the screen.
2. Arrow over to select Boot. Highlight CDROM and move it to the first position using the F6 key.
3. Place the System CD in the CD-ROM drive.
4. Exit the BIOS, saving your changes.
5. When system boots from CD, select the language choice.
6. Insert Recovery Disk 2-1 when prompted, click OK
7. The next window states this Recovery CD will install Windows XP Pro, click OK
8. Click OK for the license agreement
9. This next window provides three choices:
* Use existing partitioning, and all data on the drive C: will be lost!
* Factory default partitioning, and all data on the hard disk will be lost!
* Customizing partitioning, and all data on the hard disk will be lost!
10. To remove the hard disk partitions, choose `Factory default´ or `Customize´.
Follow the screen prompts to finish recovery.

You have to click this to disabled or else you will have nothing but havoc!

Doesn't matter if it is XP or VISTA, both suck! :? Just play'n ;) I know they both have thier reason for being on your system. I know that you are going to be successful with this install! Make 2 partitions to start (sizes your call, one for VISTA and one for Ultimate Edition) format one to NTFS and leave other unallocated. Install to NTFS partition with VISTA. Then throw in your live session and use Gparted (after successful install of VISTA) to format the unallocated partition to your format of choice and how you see fit and you can break that partition up into /home, /media, ect. if you would like. Good Luck! I think this one is going to make you happy. :D

So, you got VISTA loaded and working correctly first?
Can you give me a play by play with what you've done and what you've checked so far? & what spot exactly are you getting "stuck" at again?

OK first page..8th post is a image of what I am seeing booting in the kernel(recovery mode)
Sata link down have tried Christmas 1.6, 1.6, 1.7 all are stopping at the same place same message.
Did the partition as guided..use available space, also set my own up at 5gig/root, 65gig home, 6gig swap..ext/3
Also tried Scientific Linux partition in ext/2 and ext3 with the program setting up the empty partition. It failed with "kernel panic could not find root"..further research led me to this article.. http://www.nabble.com/ahci-sata-detecti ... 74562.html
I know in SL root was installed as it itemizes all the installation..kind of neet..but took all of 40 minutes

OK, I don't know why it is doing this, but I think that you should get rid of some possible causes with your funky bios. If you could, disable "network boot" and "quite boot" and then enable "press F12 for boot menu". Press F10 and save/exit bios. upon reboot see what happens first, if you are still stuck at the same spot, hit F12 and see what options are available here and what that was all about. I'm still going crazy over the whole "Sata" thing. Let me know how that turns out.

PS- You never answered my question if VISTA is loading or not.

Yes vista is loading..and am trying Hardy Alpha 5, had it in Vista with Wubi, right now it has a different kernel stock is 2.6.24-8 on the upgrade it jumps up to 2.6.24-10 so far Hardy has loaded without me dropping in safe graphic mode..cannot wait to see how TheeMahn can customize it..oh and easybcd is something to look into for MBR's..worked three times for me now.
