Off the top of my head... I'm thinking a large pipe wrench would work quite nicely. just kidding ;)

Thanks LeadFingers!

I'm just a bit reticent to try the 'Brother' link you (cowboy) suggested, as this is where my problems stated, unless (you ?) someone could walk me through the procedure.

I posted a question a couple of days ago 'More printer woes' with little response... I did get that link from another forum.

You mentioned in the thread there is no known fix, specific to the hl1230lpr misery. I'm sure the workaround I have would be helpful to others in the same boat (not necessarily for the hlxxxx prob.)... could it be a sticky - perhaps?

BTW - Starting over was an option I considered but what would I have learned? I read tips all over the place and came up with the solution. My copy and paste skills are pretty good! Eventually, I'll learn what each command string does... I hope!

Thanks again!

Sadly printer support in not one of Linux's strong points.
Since I don't have a brothers printer, any help I attempted
would be the blind leading the less blind. Sorry.

That's the cool thing about Google, your fix for the hl1230lpr bork, should now be listed.

I don't think this is a hijack? As the thread is morphing...

The printer prob. is actually a router prob., the driver for my printer is in 'printer choices'.

I just can't get the printer to print through my router, the other puters do!

I could put a switch inline, puter LPT > switch > printer > A = Linux > B = router... Complicated for nothing!

The printer needs the correct LPR string?? 192.468.2.1:xxx something... I've tried a few addys with nothing?

windoze setup: IP_192.168.2.1
LPR not RAW
LPT1

The printer could be any model!

I think there was a post about getting your printer recognized across a network.
I'll have to look for it and get back with you.
