Did I miss something with the upgrade?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

Did I miss something with the upgrade?

Postby mangurt » Tue Feb 05, 2008 4:41 pm

Greetings,
I have been floating around my installation of Ultimate Edition 1.7. I can't seem to find myth tv or mplayer? Did I miss these on the installation, or do I need to run the update script and download these programs? I just remember when I was using Ultimate Edition 1.7 that myth tv and mplayer were both there.
Secondly, and I know this is going sound like a broken record, but how do I get rid of the error message I get about kubunutu files? I saw something about dumping the file, but I don't know how to do that.
Thanks

Mplayer is in Applications > Sound & Video on my system however, I chacked and MythTV isn't installed... Hmm.

There is an article on the site for the kubuntu docs error... I'll try to find it for you.

Ok, I think I figured out the kubuntu-docs error, just removed and reinstalled.

I also found mplayer, but I am having a problem getting it to work. I use to right click on a .mkv file and open with mplayer, but now I get some crazy error
Failed to open file:///home/ed/Videos/Nip_Tuck%20-205x11%20-%20Kyle%Angie/nip.tuck.avi
I cannot open anything with mplayer now. I am sure it's something simple, but I am lost.

I would...
1) double check that any broken pkgs were fixed (synaptic)
2) make sure I had every codecs I could get my hands on.
3) double check the permissions on AVI's and folder their in
If still no joy.
4) uninstall Mplayer, & reinstall

VLC works fine....in fact, I pretty much use it all the time :)

And there is nothing wrong with Nip/Tuck :p

The big reason why I want mplayer working is for .mkv files. For some reason, VLC lags with that file format. I had the same problem with VLC and .mkv files when I used winblows, and ended up using the cccp codex and windows media player classic to watch that file format.

According to the Mplayer download page several codecs are not installed by default. (but their list of supported formats is impressive)
However it should play .avi files just fine.
Can you tried any other avi besides that one nip/tuck?
Uninstalling & reinstalling Mplayer through synaptic will verify that all dependencies are met with no broken packages associated.
As for the mkv files, check to see if you have libebml & libmatroska libraries installed.
available from the mkv download page.

will be interesting to see how this gets fixed

I cannot play any files via mplayer (but the online plug-in works, go figure). I will try that suggestion when I get home tonight.
