Hi and welcome aboard! I'm no expert by anymeans, have you done a walk through of Nvidia contol manager? Checked out all the options there? Like I said, I'm no master at high resolution setups, but do run a Nvidia card myself. Here is a good little idea of what all the maddness is about with cards and settings.

System/Administration/Screens & Graphics
allows you to choose the make & model for your monitor
This also detects the vertical & horizontal freq.
once this has been changed and you've rebooted
you should be able to choose a higher refresh rate to match your monitor.

ps don't forget to tick the widescreen box if that applys
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

Thanks for both the replys, just after i posted i started messing about with the screens and graphics, i have found out that if it is using the standard NV driver i can get 60hz and my films play spot on, but i lose my 3d effects and game support, soon as i select 7 series geforce i get 57hz at first it lets me select 60hz with the driver but when i restart x it goes down to 57hz again, hmmmmm
