Don't you just love hardware. I just finished swapping ethernet cards because the on board Atheros ethernet on my main box went caput. I dug out an old one to replace the one I swapped, and suddenly the os didn't like it(not Ultimate another distro). I finally just installed a different os(one that would recognize all my hardware). So now I have Windows XP on my main box, Ultimate on my fun box and Target Linux on my cluncker box. It's nice to see that the third world has finally got us all by the short and curlies!!! pch

Computers are funny things indeed. I had a guy that used to work for me and when he got too close to my PC it would re-boot. I had to get him to take a wide berth around my computer. I think some times just looking at them the wrong way will make them malfuncion. pch

I blame all my hardware issues from talking to people in forums. Somehow their problems suddenly become your problems. Maybe there is some wierd force that is released into the telephone line I am connected to. That's how I get my internet connection(Bell Sympatico 512 kb per sec-unlimited downloads-50 bucks a month). pch

Jumping in late here, not a fix but an explanation.

The computer boots up in a preset mode, configured at installation,
until the part of the grub process where it looks at xorg.conf to load the drivers & modules.
Nvidia users generally see the Nvidia splash screen at this point.
It doesn't matter what you do to xorg.conf or configure in Gnome,
the part of the boot Before the Nvidia splash screen won't be effected by these.

Next time you install an OS have the LCD hooked up,
I bet your pop-up goes away.
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

Have you forgotten? This is deate you're dealing with...Manager of the unexplained...Monitor was hooked up on 2 subsequent installs and POP Up still exists....after reading your explanation, I still think it has to do with the AccuSync part of the monitor, whereby it is trying to auto-detect frequency range that is not there till xorg. loads drivers...POP UP box does say auto-detecting...and then freq. out of range...it's an annoyance I can live with till I change monitors around

I would seriously consider changing your IP. It sounds like they are really yanking your chain. See if Sympatico is available in your area. All you do is connect the modem to your phone line, attach filters to all your phones, hook an ethernet cable up to your computer, install the software and connect directly to the internet. No proxy server, no download limit, realatively fast, nothing else. They mail you the package with all you need to get going, and if there is a problem, they fix it right away!!! I have been using it for 2 years without one hitch.pch

Just not possible or practical to switch. I'm 20 miles from the closest town, and all phone lines out here are old copper, subject to wet condition interruptions and the ever present "FireAnt" invasion of electrical and phone equipment...Phone service is disrupted or de-graded on a very frequent basis...everything here is owned by AT&T..satellite(wildblue) land lines AT&T.. cell service(cingular-AT&T) = deate's screwed! After my contract is up, with satellite, I might give wireless option a try through Cingular...depends on the cost, AT&T know they have the monopoly so they don't care.Like I said , I have the luxury of having many monitors, so I'll just switch, and do a clean install of 1.7 and see where that gets me....1.7 looks better on my 17" Sam, than my15"NEC any way :P
