Hardware Correction: How to change DVD write speed

I am now on Kernel 2.6.32-26

For me 16x CD write speed is okay.

I have old hardware which was able to write DVDs at 1x, back in previous linux version.

Now, I dont get speed of less than 4x.

Tested on k3b, xfburn, and brasero. But all start at bottom 4x write speed. k3b forced back to 4x.

Tried on the cli tools like: growisofs, wodim, cdrecord, dvdrecord, makedvd. The speed forced back to 4x.

EXAMPLE:
=========
~$ growisofs -Z /dev/dvd -R -J -speed=1 /~/data2
Executing 'genisoimage -R -J /~/data2 | builtin_dd of=/dev/dvd obs=32k seek=0'
I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings)

How can I do it?

Thanks in advance......

I tested the liveCD of ub 8.04 and braseoro allows me to write at 1x, 3x,... for the same hardware.

The problem is: If a DVD is written at higher x, it gets un-readable by some dvd players. Even the writer does not recognize it.

At lower write speed say 1x, or 2x, it gets read easily.

I feel the prblem is somewhere here:

$dmesg:

1.029269] scsi 0:0:0:0: CD-ROM SONY DVD RW DRU-830A SS25 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 1.040524] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 40x/40x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
[ 1.040537] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
[ 1.040827] sr 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
[ 1.041028] sr 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5

I hope theres a solution. In linux one can modify anything. But I am not that advance, technically.... ?

Nothing is impossible. I'll look at some other burning software this week and post back.

Hi pch.shot

It wil be real help for me, if I can get a write speed of 1x via some device detection RE-configuration.

Thank you.
