DockBox - iPhone Dock |Update 09.09.09|

Postby Dany-Lisiansky » Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:15 pm

I thought for a long time to do a home made iPhone Dock (docking station), but I always crossed it with a lot of other things (like screen LCD, Splitter USB, headphone out / mic, memory card reader, etc.), but every time I encounter Another problem in the planning of this (Perspex - too expensive / could not catch up perfectly, etc.), so I decided to split the projects and make the Dock to iPhone in a separate project.

Let's start with the pictures:
Drawing on-SU:

I took an old computer door, I marked the same size piece cut and began to cut the top of the dock station (where the "Adaptor" will be goled):

I marked the cut size and shape of the Adaptor:

I took your inspiration and decided to create one myself.

I bought a new ipod 120Gig 6th gen video. I wanted a docking station for charging and connecting to the PC. I took an old jewelry box or whatever you want to call it, and mounted the ipod trey that comes with it. Then I hot glued the power connector to the trey and mounted it on the box. I now have a nice custom dock for my new ipod. It cost a grand total of 12 bucks for glue and gun.

Nice work.
but i suggest you, to erase the pen lines\paint the whole box -.
and to push the adaptor ("tray) till douwn, so it will fit perfactly on the box (allmost smooth surcfase)

That will be next as it is not finished yet. I have not yet decided what I want to do to the outside of the box. I do know that I am going to be adding some usb ports on it and possibly an E-sata port.

When you finish it - post some pic's.

and just 1 tip - ignore magnets from touching the ESATA\SATA cables.

good luck! :)
