I just spent $100 (10,000 yen) on cartridges for my HP 2610 All in One: 1 color and 1 Black. I have a refill kit and I have refilled the cartridges before, the computer continues to read them as empty. It must have a chip. Maybe a string magnet or something would erase the data. Maybe their is just a better printer I need to buy, but they all seem to be doing the same shi...stuff.

There was a way to get around this by taping a couple of pins on the HP cartridge...can't remember which ones but there was a 2 step sequence to it (tape pin, put in printer, take out of printer, tape 2nd pin, put back in). It reset whatever it was that needed resetting...came across this on a search way back when .. when I use to refill my own...problem was, when I shifted over to using HP printers, the premium ink needed to "not" ruin the printer was almost as expensive as the HP cartridge...calculated time over additional inkpack costs, figured it wasn't worth refilling myself anymore...Now I think HP is using a different 'ink level detect' method and taping the pins wouldn't work on the new cartridges anyway...

Do you realize that 40% of HP's revenue comes from ink? They could afford to sell their printers at a loss because the profit margin is so high on ink.... And here I thought all the big money was in cocaine.

I was recently looking at the Kodak ESP printers... printing quality and speed are good both for standard and graphic printing. Heck, picture printing on plain paper comes out pretty impressive. The ink for both black and colors together were less than what a black HP cartridge was (reason I was in the store in the first place.) Plus, to further distinguish their approach to ink, they actually put the QUANITY of ink on the package.

HP makes decent printers, but I am tired of paying thru the nose for ink.

This is only one of the things I've seen with a comparison to HP black ink. do a search on google for most expensive liquids and you'll see what I mean.

This is why I keep thinking that SOMEONE, some entrepreneur has got to come out with a way to squeeze themselves in between that profit margin. The opportunity is just to good. Even if it' s not with a successful refill system, a manufacturer could just sell "clone" cartridges at a lower cost.

Well then, I guess I'll be looking at Kodaks next.
Thanks

DaddyX3, what happened to the image? It's not showing up. At least not on my screen.
