It's being looked into, I am not sure what's going on with that :?

You are not the only one to make me aware of this, I haven't blocked anyone, I generally prefer pure evil over passive aggression.

Passive agression is worse than pure evil for the record, they just can't come up with a better name for it since people have an unhealthy fear of words that are generally no more than an unqualified adjective as it is.

I have had that problem with the dual application launcher menu before on Linux Mint KDE 13 but it's been a while, I did not lose the system tray however.

I am pretty sure the application launcher was an easy fix, but if you see in the future, the first thing to do would be to delete the panel and start a new one, and here is where you would add a system tray as well. I followed the same course as you for a while, but you are going to have to stop and deal with what is going on within the OS instead of constantly replacing eventually. I'm sure it could be said that KDE is not for newbies..blahh. Thing is, the more you fail, you will most likely be learning, for me this is preferable. As for the DE you switched to, that is 3.4 most likely, some of those environments do not work as par for course..like Gnome, never seen it work, but I have a Gnome session entry on several OS that does nothing, it is like a leach. This is why I recommended 3.4 lite. It looks great, has all the options, and you can just deal with Mate and move from there. I like Mate, it just doesn't look like this

That's just moving files on a barely set up sid, and it is beautiful. :D

I'm trying to decide if I want to try Lite. I like 3.4 out of the box other than my audacity issue (which may be an audacity issue) I like the looks and compiz effects. I know plain jane works, I run Lubuntu on a few older machines and they work flawless except for compiz effects and I choose to leave them off. If a pc is powerful enough I want the eye candy and effects. It catches the eyes of onlookers and makes the ask "What is that?" I really liked 3.5 out of the box aswell but I couldn't even get the pc shut down without holding the power button in. Maybey i'll dual boot 3.4 and 3.4 Lite. Does compiz effects work on Lite and does KDE install well on lite?

I see your'e using Ultimate Edition 3.4
I'd suggest you either use Ultimate Edition 3.5 or 3.4 lite

Ultimate Edition 3.4 lite does not have any packages, you have to install it yourself, its pretty much a straightforward task. Catching everyone's eye will require very few apps and about 10 minutes.

Ultimate Edition 3.5 has KDE and everything else but upgrading will not always yield expected results. ;)

Between the above 2 mentioned, the choice is yours(though i'd suggest 3.4 lite).

Both are LTS and built on the same base.

I tried 3.5 64bit and had all sorts of problems including not being able to shut down pc. considering trying it again, mayby it was a bad burn! it's strange 3.4 seems to work fine for me on this pc as long as I leave it alone.

My 3.5 (32) in setup was running off of Ext WD 300gb portable. I am running 64 now with same setup on internal tb and it is flying. There is also Black Opal. It is pretty clean and ready to go. I'm actually trying to get the 32 bit downloaded myself as I type this, I have 64 version running all sorts of cool stuff and even a working cinnamon.

This may be impatience.

The system will start up and shutdown faster after use. If you want pure speed the angle must be through specs and setting up accordingly, knowing your processor and RAM and being vigilant. In other words, starting from the bottom and building up. This isn't really the OS for that, but 3.4 lite would be a better place to start.

I downloaded 3.5 32bit. may try redownloading 64, still got to DL 3.4 Lite. Think i'm gonna tri-boot so I don't screw up working os. What is black opal? Is it a Ultimate Edition distro?
