No problem there, it's not much yet. The only thing I've really done so far is really just a test. It's very simple, and made from a wallpaper I d'loaded.
Better in my opinion, I'll share what I know. It's not much. I just D'loaded the source folder for Ubuntu's usplash, and replaced the images that were there with one that I liked. Best to start with a big original so that you're scaling it down to the sizes that you need. (Image>Scale>set to H&V [you may have to unlock aspect ratio]) When you have the image scaled, then before saving, make sure that you (Image>Mode>Indexed) and save the image with the same name as the one in the folder for that respective size. (I leave the original images there so that I know I got the name right by having to confirm overwrite and I know that I didn't miss any). Once I have them all replaced, I make sure that the .so file is blown out along with any .png.c.o files (NOT THE .c FILE!!), open a terminal, navigate to the folder, and type make. It will compile new .png.c.o files, and a new .so file that I can rename to whatever I want. Then I just use startup manager to add the new .so and select it as my usplash. (startup manager copies it to the appropriate sys folder so you can do whatever you want with your "build folder" (like make another splash.) I don't believe that I needed anything other that the normal build program package. One thing I still don't understand is how my throbber keeps getting color keyed to my new splash, but it seems to do this on it's own. (My test and the resident evil that I had to rebuild after d'loading from gnome-look)
Like I say, this one is only a test really say um... 3rd try LOL . So go easy on me. My Gimping is quite minimal.

The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It is functioning 100% effectively @ 50% capacity. It is approximately 75% efficient. I suggest fitting a lid of some sort.

All of the images for a particular resolution need to use the same color palette. That is why your progress bar would be using different colors thatn what you intended. Usplash is reading the palette indexes and outputting that particular pixel color to the framebuffer, so if your background has red at index 100 and your throbber has blue at index 100, then you wont get what you are expecting. Also, open up the .c file and look for the palette index numbers. They are listed as hexidecimal in the example usplash, but that is wrong. The should be in decimal.

Take a look at my parallax usplash. In the C code, you will see that the palette values are in decimal. Also, it is not a standard usplash, so feel free to analyze the code for other ideas. Trust me, the C file is where all the magic really happens, so hopefully you'll become pretty good at making them once familiar with C or at the very least editing the file.

Thanks, I'll be looking into it. I have it here somewhere, and had decided it was beyond me at that point. I'll be taking a closer look soon with new eyes. Also I must mention that it's pretty slick besides. You may recognize some of the fundamentals in future work from me. <BREW>

BTW, can you recommend a good online C primer I can count on? I'm gonna' look around on my own, and have looked into the .c file in usplash I managed to mod the throbber position on the RW splash, but after submitting it here, remembered that I only modded the resolution that I'm using. oops, I did mention that it was really just a test didn't I?

As far as online, you could check out
http://www.cprogramming.com/

http://www.planet-source-code.com/ has been helpful in the past. I know for a fact that there are very knowledgeable people who have posted excellent examples on basic stuff to the insane. If you come across some of Jared Bruni's stuff, check it out. Very knowledgeable individual.

I'd recommend getting an actual book too, as they usually have better examples and documentation than some sites. Plus if, your internet bombs or are in an area where you can't get the net, you've got a hard copy right in your hands.
