Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

livecd refuses to load

Postby xkillerx » Fri Feb 08, 2008 5:14 pm

hello and greetings to the ultimate edition community!

i've downloaded 1.7 a few days ago but i still cant get it to boot the live version so i can install it on the computer. it's an MSI VR610X laptop, amd 690G based. i clear the hard drive before every install. version 1.4 loads, runs and installs just fine, just as official ubuntu 7.10.

i get a bunch of pidof errors, then it stays in text mode, keeps on loading, and in the end finishes with a welcome note and an ubuntu@ubuntu prompt.

if i try startx it crashes with "no screens found, fatal IO error 104".

help!?

You might need to add vga=771 to the bootloader. Try that and then we'll go from there.
Also... noacpi might be a good idea too. Some laptops can't handle it. If you're getting any IO errors noapic is another one. Checking the dvd for errors from grub bootup screen might be a good idea too. How far along in the boot process are you getting?
