so what you are saying, is that after everything loads up, you get a command prompt thingy?

ixnod@obfuscated-OS:~$

Looking like that above?

well if it say something to that effect, then type in.

Code: Select all
startx

That I believe should get your xserver running. now you may have a problem with either RAM or video drivers.
Ram being theres not enought floating around to have an actual live session. That problem is easily fixable.

if you have your hard drive less than %50 full, then do a defrag and a scandisk of the hard drive. when that is done, Right-click on the computer icon and scroll down to the manage option. click on that one. now, select the big partition of the hard drive bar. this should be representative of your main partition with a smaller one to the left being your backup partition. now once the big one is selected,Right click on it you should get a drop down dialog menu. from there scroll down and select "Shrink volume" shrink it by about 3 gigs. Now wait a few minutes as windows does its thing. the bigger the hard drive, or the fuller it is, the longer it will take. Also important you don't shut off the computer or run any of the aforementioned programs or you will bork your system somthin fierce! now we leave that little guy alone for a minute. Once thats one, you don't want to format or even name that volume/partition. now try restarting the computer and load the dvd on restarting.

if thats not working, then it may be a video driver issue. but should be circumvented by using a safe mode option.
