Ultimate is the new BlackXP...

Postby jfg69 » Sun Apr 13, 2008 12:46 am

Well, I got sidetracked and came across a blog on PCLinuxOS. Theres a new version out and somehow I ended up in a blog that was comparing or implying that PCLos was or would be the Nix answer to BlackXP.

For those that dont know what BlackXP is, you can Google it, but its a remaster of XP with all kinds of apps included, like adobe's products, nero, etc (all pirate sw of course..) It is an interesting version and there are quite a few versions, many trying to mimic Vista (God only knows why..)
Long story short, you can read my brief comment here>http://pclinuxos2007.blogspot.com/2008/03/my-favourite-apps-on-pclinuxos-gnome.html?showComment=1208059380000#c8276859589111327683 for yourself if you like.. or here>http://pclinuxos2007.blogspot.com/2008/03/my-favourite-apps-on-pclinuxos-gnome.html to see what others are just catching up on.

My point? oh yeah.. ;) These guys are all drooling over what amounts to dreams of a loaded baked potato with sour cream, cheese, bacon and anything else you can put on there... and we here at Ultimate have been tasting what they are just catching up on...thanks to the tireless efforts of TheeMahn and all the faithful here on these forums.

This is without a doubt the best, MOST COMPLETE distro out there! Spread the word, Ultimate is the new Black!

And for anyone interested, here is a version of the so-called competetion> A reloaded version of PCLos that uses Enlightenment instead of KDE.

Might be fun to play with the Live version, for $#!% and gigglez.

I'll post back my impressions later on in the week.

I think it's funny that no one has followed up after your post. It was like they hit a brick wall called the truth.

I remember toying with PCLOS. Actually, in all fairness, it's a pretty sleek distro. If for some reason I had to give up Ubuntu/Ultimate, PCLOS would get a hard look. And a version that uses Enlightenment, eh? Now that is interesting.

Have any of you ever used the E. desktop? I have... And I must say that, as much as I liked what I saw, the version I was using was not ready for prime-time. I think I remember reading somewhere that E. was the creation of a bunch of artists... which I firmly believe. I work with a bunch of artists for my day-job and from what I can tell E. has "artist" written all over it. Not that that's a bad thing, but it certainly is in need of some "right brain" thinking to get the bugs ironed out and too introduce a concept called "stability". Do you hear the words that are coming out of my mouth, Team Enlightenment? Stuhhh-billll-uh-teee... Get yourself some and then give me a call. PCLOS... I'll give them some props for a pretty decent distro, but then, there's a lot of those around, Tex.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.

I actually forgot I even posted this! I tried PCLos before I found Ultimate. It was "ok", but not good enough for me. I had major connection issues, which may have been fixed by now. The rest is hard to judge, since I really didnt have any linux experience to speak of.
Ultimate on the other hand, had everything I needed, most of what I wanted, good support and most of all- it got me online!
