Why Everyone Should Be Using Ultimate

Postby pch.shot » Fri Mar 21, 2008 4:21 pm

I have just finished trying out another 2 dozen or so distros over the past week(I've tried over fifty now) and Ultimate is one of only two that recognize
all my hardware(Puppy is the other one). The only minor issue is a crystal semi-conductor cs4236 on an old PIII which can be easily set up with modprobe.
So to everybody, don't waste your time, install Ultimate a.s.a.p. lol,pch

Here's another reason...IT WORKS!!!...I've only been using it for a short period of time, and I have found myself waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak, but everything is just working along fine. I know(as do many of you) that I have a long way to go to learn all this stuff, but it's a lot easier when every thing works or you have a great bunch to help you with what doesn't.

Had it not been for Ultimate, I would have given up on Linux/Ubuntu. The video driver/splash-screen issues in the Official Version were driving me nuts. Then it was the old drill of getting Flash and Java installed/working. Then it was something else... Aaaaaand one more thing.

Whiskey! Tango! Foxtrot!

I tell people all the time, "Suck it up, sugar britches, and do fresh install of Ultimate. You'll thank me for it.

And they do.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.

I found this on Ubuntuforums:
Black screen after Grub

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the same issue I had with 7.10
When I enable my ATI graphics card (Radeon x1650) or I install it with Envy and restart the computer. The screen will flicker and go to a black screen immediately after the Ubuntu load screen. I can not enable desktop effects until I enable my card.
To date, the only version of Ubuntu that I have been able to run desktop effects is Ultimate Edition 1.7
Thanks for any help,
Chase
