Gnome or KDE?

Postby bloodnut » Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:38 am

I am very new to Linux.I am using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon at the moment but I have just downloaded Ultimate Edition 1.7 (Gnome & KDE).My question is what is the difference between Gnome & KDE and which is the better one to use. Please excuse my ignorance but as I mentioned I am new to Linux.
Thanks in advance.

Better is in the eye of the beholder. I like Gnome, but I know a lot of people who like KDE. I don't like the way the KDE menu is set up. I also don't like how you change themes on KDE. KDE is said to be more Windows like but I just prefer the way Gnome is organized.

You will also here people say that KDE is faster than Gnome and vise versa, but I have used both and saw no speed difference. KDE is a little buggy though. Look up some screen shots of both and see which on you think look better. We have some here of both in the art section.

That's like asking "What's the best flavor of ice cream", it's a matter of preference.
(and any is better than none)
Each has their good points.
Aren't you lucky, you have them both.
select one from the login window & try it out.
Next time try the other.
You get to decide which one is best! :D

I have both installed on mine, I do favor Gnome though, but KDE is OK also. It's like LeadFingers said all depends on what flavor you like,,Death by Chocolate.. ;)
