I had done an upgrade from UE2.9 to UBUNTU 11.04 due to options to update will not run FAILS AND UPGRADE OPTION IS ALL THAT WILL RUN.
AFTER THE UPGRADE MUCH OF THE OS IS broke including VLC.
just did a clean install OF UE2.9 AND SAME ISSUE.
IS UBUNTU FORCING A PUSH TO THIS OS OR AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG HERE OR DO I NEED TO DISABLE ENABLE SOME REPOSITORIES TO FIX THIS.

Don't ever do a Ubuntu level upgrade of Ultimate Edition, it breaks the additions that TheeMann puts in. Ultimate Edition 3.0 is in final testing and should be out real soon now, Do a gfresh install of that and you will be amazed

+1 on upgrading. That would include any distro that bases upon Ubuntu, such as Mint, PinguyOS, etc. Just like you shouldn't try to upgrade Ubuntu to Debian Sid/experimental
