11.04 UNITY first try with Compiz

Hello, The install of 11.04 UNITY first try with Compiz, last evening at 9 pm, went fairly well but it took a long time, the internet connection to UBUNTU was slow, it took almost 25 min just to download and install the Nvidia driver! This morning about 10 min ago I downloaded and installed the Compiz items. After several min I found out where they went and tried to enable the cube but had to disable the wall and Unity plugin. I enabled a few others like wobbly window and when I closed the compiz window the computer crashed with just the desktop wall paper. I restarted by using the control/alt delete and still just the wallpaper shows up unable to do anything. So I will probably throw out that disk! Well I will probably reinstall it and try to use the gnome window manager instead of unity..

If I can't have Compiz I don't want UNITY. Compiz IS the main feature of Linux that got my involved into trying Linux in the first place!

I logged in and then selected at the bottom of the screen the UBUNTU CLASSIC option. Had to download and install most of the Compiz items; including the Compiz Fusion and Emerald parts. Warning___if you try to select CCSM simple compiz to install, it will want to remove all of the other Compiz files, causing them to become broken packages......!! :o

You need to right click on the Com. Fusion icon to enable the Compiz indirect rendering box or Compiz doesn't do anything.
Also within the Compiz control panel window you need to enable the move and resize options as well as the Window decoration or you can't move the windows, where ever that window opens is where it stays.......... Not a whole lot of difference between the 10.10 and 11.04 except for the slider/scroll bar...so far anyway.

Mutter is default windows manager. Compiz only has limited functionality in Unity.

Changing this via
Code: Select all
compiz --replace
ends very badly for unity but works out quite well in classic.

Emerald remains broke due to lack of new compiz support.

GTK and ubuntu tweak windows boarder transparency is fully working however.

Do your self a favor and install all expansion packs for compiz.

Hi everyone, there is a patch that you need for emerald to work its posted in the ubuntu forums. I post the link when I get to it I am reinstalling natty because i had error that i did not like(no recovery mode).
Computer: Antec NSK6500 case, MSI K9A2 Platinum, BE940 Phenom II,6gig ddr2 1066mhz ram, 4 sata hd (1 250gb seagate w/acronis for op sys bkp only and 1 TB wd green for movie bkp only and disconnected) , 3 1TB wd black sata II(no raid),Zalman 9700 air cooler, on board realsucks sound, Sony 42" hdtv connected to a 4670 ATI Radeon video card/ w Zalman 900 air cooler(very quiet) , 21.5 in Acer lcd monitor(cheap monitor finally died) , 2 ide dvd rw drives LG , 1 sata hp 340i bluray disk writer
OP sys : Win XP Pro, 1 Win7-64bit-ultimate and 1 custom precise 12.04 with all media codecs compiled by me and a bunch of media encoders.
