Text Editor for *.sql Files

Postby John$ » Fri Apr 22, 2011 4:07 pm

Hi,

The default text editor does not let me edit the MySql sql files. I am relocating a data base and need to edit internal links with a
Find: Old URL
Replace: New URL

When I used a Teco editor, I am from that time in history when this was popular, it dropped characters that invalidated my sql script. I have never used the vi editor or similar product.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

That sounds like it should work.

I downloaded the sql-editor and I will check it out for the task at hand.

Thanks,
John

From what I could determine, this was a sql data base editor. I need an editor that will work with an insert load script.

john@Ultimate:~/sql-editor/usr/bin$ file big.sql
big.sql: UTF-8 Unicode English text, with very long lines, with CRLF line terminators

The text editors that have not worked are "Text Editor" and "Juff Ed". The ones I have not tried yet are jEdit, nEdit, and Bible edit. Those seem to be the available ubunta choices.

Many years ago I used the vi editor. It was hard to understand very much like that teco text editor I mentioned earlier.

This script file big.sql is a file that is imported from a client site into a host server's data base using the MySql Admin tool. That teco text editor functioned properly, however it dropped some of those embedded control characters.

Thanks for being patient with me.

I was able to resolve this issue by using the teco editor with the proper settings for a binary file.
