Updates gone wiled

Postby pclinuxguru » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:17 am

Received several messages as of late about broken programs.

Some have noticed this and wondered the cause.

2 of the worst offenders have been the update from python .5 to .6

Should compiz setting manager stop working, a bad update for python is to blame.

Fix - fresh install, install all updates before any additional drivers or kernel updates.

Broken splash screens at start up have been linked to recent update for grub 2 aka grubpc version 2

Fix - fresh install of Plymouth themes and reinstall grubpc.

Another one just taking place on SOME systems. Slow typing, long delays seeing caricatures appear when typing.

This one was a easy fix,

using accessibility to force the keyboard driver to accept faster strokes.

Another one from a client just now.

Splash screen lost after update, noticed this one my self.

Due to grub update.

Code: Select all
sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth

pick the one you want

Code: Select all
sudo update-initramfs -u

Finally make it all official.

Code: Select all
sudo update-grub2

If you get a update-alternatives: unknown option

reinstall Plymouth themes via synaptic then repeat.
