2.6.1 is based upon Ubuntu 10.04LTS. The LTS means Long Term Support. Ubuntu has "benchmark" releases, releases they will keep updating and supporting for several years, and then has interim releases that the don't. 2.8 and 2.9 are based on Ubuntu 10.10, which will be superceded by 11.04. So if you want a long-term install, I would go with 2.6.1, if you want the latest and greatest, get 2.9, but be ready to replace it with 3.0 in the near future. I would install both!

Really ultimate edition you shared it's really helpful for me you may also choose various ultimate software from carbonmanagementsoftware it has lots of various software according to your needs. Hope this will be helpful for you. Thanks!

I fail to see any benefit's using Carbon as a software provider. Ultimate Edition for the most part is already complete in it array of installed programs. Leaving the user, a well designed and suppoted system. And it is "Free" to anyone who use it.

I am presently running 2.6.1 as my other dual boot with Oz Unity.it is better than the earlier release by far!!!
