@#!$ing on Ultimate Edition Forum

I love the Ultimate Edition forums and probably never would have gotten help with a downloading issue without the help of good folks like TheeMahn and DaddyX3.
However on Ubuntu Forums there are a few curse words scattered here and there. I am not allowed to be on sites with that sort of thing and would like it to be strictly prohibited. I am not trying to be radical, things like the word "darn" and symbols such as #!@#$! are OK with me. But sraight forward cursing or even words with +'s instead of t's and !'s instead of i's shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.
I don't wan't to start a flame fest but I would really like to log in and be in a community that is safe for everybody.
If nobody agrees with me then I will be quiet and be happy to use the operating system alone.
I am thankful to TheeMahn for providing a forum where I can voice my opinion and would love to continue using it for years to come.

I am adding this after my original post. I found it in the rules for posting:

2) You may not post or relate to anything illegal inside the U.S. This includes but is not limited to the following:

[*] You may not post anything pornographic or unsuitable for people under 18 years old.
[*] You may not post any copyrighted material, without the proper permission from the author or publisher.
[*] You may not post warez, hacking related software, hacking tools, software downloads.

I just realized that I posted a link for uTorrent. I will remove it immediately.

Welcome to Ultimate Edition, and Happy New Years.
I agree with your view of a clean Forum, and in my view it is the best around, not saying that because I am a Moderator. I read through the post quite frequently, and really not seen but one that was out of line, which was dealt with. The Moderators and Administrators keep a close eye on that aspect, one does slip by though. The only way we can keep abreast of the issues is by feedback, which you have provided. We don't live in a perfect world, but we can try to make at least, best.. ;)

I just realized that I posted a link for uTorrent. I will remove it immediately.

That was not necessary to remove the link for uTorrent or the .iso file you downloaded. FILE-SHARING IS NOT ILLEGAL!!!! uTORRENT IS NOT ILLEGAL!!!! Using torrent clients for downloading data and any file (or OS in this case -GPL :D ) is not illegal - and never should be thought of as that. File sharing by means of torrents is a beautiful thing and has opened up a world of possibility with downloading large files .... it helped you in your time of need ;) Please re-post your link, it would be helpful to know where to find it :)

i totally agree with daddy. utorrent and the torrent proticol in general is a thing of pure beauty. unfortunately some use it for legal purposes some illegal. no matter what you read or what anybody tells you. bit torrent and the applications that use that proticol are 110% legal. it is what "some" people choose to use it for thats illegal.

now as far as the rules go. that bit on software is actually directly reguarding illegal software. you can post a link to open source as well as free software. however you CANT post a link that allows you to use "payware" (software you are supposed to pay for) for free. such as if i posted a link to say a site that had acronis true image linux version (this is a backup solution) available for free download with a serial. this would be a severe violation of the rules not to mention illegal. hope that clears that aspect up. cheers :-)

I, like the others, agree that we all watch for swearing and other inappropriate material. We want this to be a safe and friendly forum that anyone can use for help with Ultimate Edition or just come to chat.

Wow ! I must have missed a few posts !
So far I haven't read any posts where anyone was rude, let alone vulgar,
and I can't remember where anyone even mistyped inappropriate language.

My take on the forum is... the Mods & Admins go out of their way to make sure no gets offended.
Even the users seem to be a fairly polite group.
If there is any name calling or finger pointing its all done strictly in fun, with a total absence of malice.
I have yet to see a single flame letter, or anyone ridiculed for what they posted.
We haven't even had a single Troll, Believe me this is rare.

As for the torrent link...
I believe GPL stands for General Public License.
The language of which allows for anyone to modify and or distribute any GPL software any way they see fit.
Linux and Ultimate Edition software are licensed under the GPL, So By all means, Please seed the torrent !

Yes there are some software that runs on Linux that is not free. ( ie... Nero Linux )
You will know that software cause you have to pay to use it.

Glad to have you with us.

I believe what the user is referring to is some of the people on the Ubuntu forums may be swearing or using language that others my find inappropriate. He isn't allowed to visit site that allows users to use such language like this and likes the fact that users here are much tamer in their words and would like to be reassured that it will remain this way :)

Why couldn't I have said it that way?
What I was really loking for when I made my original post was peace of mind, and after reading some of the moderators' post I have it :D . Thank ya'll.
I would like for this topic to be a place where people can voice their concerns (or complaints(if there are any)) about anything that they consider inapropriate on the forums.

About that link that I removed, I thought what it meant in that last rule was that you couldn't post direct links to ANY software downloads. Thanks for setting me straight.

And lastly: I also noticed the four letters in the topic name. I would add one if I only knew how. We are true geeks :ugeek: .

I have once seen vulgar language on this forum where the user said he had "@$#!ed up his box", I immediately modified his post and warned him, I have seen no such since; minus the admin section which is not viewable by the public ;)

I am glad that I have a bunch of mods & admins that oversee the board and do a might fine job doing so.
