Fontmatrix

Postby jfg69 » Fri Dec 21, 2007 2:45 pm

I came across this while looking for a font manager so I could easily preview fonts while working on graphics. For the life of me, I can not seem to get it to install!

http://www.fontmatrix.net/

anyone? or a better alternative (other than fontypython)

Did find this: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/f/fontmatrix/?M=A

theres a deb, but it wont install due to some dependency issue, which I see as being installed in my synaptic

Libc6 is a heavy Dependency, I would have to guess this app to be in early dev stage. No I am not telling you not to install it just informing you what you are going to deal with. You will probably have to build it from source. Alot of dev packages will be required. I am not trying to deter you from doing so, you will learn alot in doing so, but alot of pains will be involved.

I compiled the sources from the Debian Sid repository. You can get the binary package from my server here http://exo.enarel.eu/fontmatrix_0.2svn-1_i386.deb. This package can be installed with GDebi.
Once installed look at the instructions on how to start using it from this page http://www.fontmatrix.net/help.html

Thanks ccal, that worked like a charm! I'm gonna play around with it a bit and see what it can do.

@TM- I went into Synaptic and it showed that libc6 was already installed, I guess it was looking for something else? I also tried installing Scribus as well, to see if that would help with the dependencies, but that was a no go as well.
I wish I could understand all this as well as you guys, a 10th of your knowledge would be supreme gift, yet a drop in the bucket!
