synaptics touchpad Problems

Been trying out 3.0.1 LiveDVD on my main laptop(Acer Aspire 5050) and found the touchpad craps out and stops working after a random amount of time, is any one else having this issue?
Right now still running UE2.9/64bit(Perfection) on my laptop and I'm sad that updates for Maverick just recently been discontinued but what cheeses me is I just got it all set up the way I like now. To TheeMan awesome work with 3.0 love the look and feel of it, it's great but right now I'll give up my first born, just to get a working 64bit version UE3.0. I know there is 64bit 3.2 but for some reason I can't stomach Gnome3 or Unity.
Cheers! <BREW>

Try the following - It's worked for some.
Open a terminal and type:

Code: Select all
synclient TouchpadOff=0

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers. :)

I have just installed the 64bit version of 3.2 on my wifes laptop, but when the mouse started freezing, I thought it might be better to install the 32bit version instead as I have been told that some 64bit drivers need work. But after about 30-40minutes of use the mouse pointer freezes and refuses to work again, A reboot gets it working again for another period of time when it freezes again, my wife is a total newbie and I am a relative newbie. I really don't want to have to switch distro again.

Can somebody please help. I know there is a post above suggesting a possible fix, but, if it works, is it a permanent change or do you have to enter the code into a terminal after every boot..? Can a more graceful solution be provided. I really would prefer it is the wife doesn't have to switch back to Windows, which she will if she has silly problems.

Many thanks for any advice given.

Mick Cassell.

Hi Blackwolf,

The alteration of the file seems to have cured the problem, again thankyou for taking the time to sort out the problem, my wife seems very happy so far with the installation, I may try it myself soon, I currently use Mint12 on my PC.

Thanks

Mick Cassell.
