I had this problem, where UE3.2 x64 would not shutdown. Only selecting shutdown, it took me back to the log in screen.

Searched around this morning and found nothing, but this afternnon came across this fix, which works"

Open terminal

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

change : GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

by : GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi=force"

Save and close

In terminal, run sudo update-grub

Then select shutdown from the mine, and all is good.

Hope this helps anyone else who has the same issue.

kiwinsn - can you tell me where you got your 3.2 download from please. I just wonder if there was a simple problem updating 'grub' and doing things again has cleared the problem even though you added the line as you said.

I have experienced the same issue and it is NOT an Ultimate issue. Several other 11.10-based distros that I have been testing all have the same issue. I see this a lot when running them in VMware workstation, especially when runningthe ISO as a LiveDVD in VMware.

I will try the fix, but in the instance of running the LiveDVD, it would have to be fixed before the ISO is made (right?).

I'm running vanilla ubuntu with vmware player and i don't get that. Maybe it's hardware related.

I got the download from the testing server.

Since doing the above, I haven't had any issues.
