There must be a way to search as you type so that when you type text, the search results quickly appear. This is what I love about searching in OS X on the Mac. I am looking for the easiest and quickest way to do searches. Hopefully a GUI solution?
I know how to internally search files thus I hope to educate you on that. If you know the file name it is unnecessary to hold a index in linux, however there are tools that do so. I hate them personally because of the initial impact on my machine scanning & why when I will be re-installing the next day and lose such a database.
- Code: Select all
find / -name NAMEOFFILE
It is best to narrow the search if you have multiple hard drives etc.
- Code: Select all
find /media/Storage -name WhatIAmLooking4.txt
In Linux as you go along you will learn very powerful commands to aid you in your search. A few off the top of my head are grep xargs and the mack daddy of all is sed, why cuz I sed so
I am sure I missed many in the statement. The learning process as you go along gives a sense of accomplishment, this will keep you here.
