Help & support for Ultimate Edtion 3.0

Upgrade?

Postby Tank997 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 7:30 pm

Is it possible to upgrade to 3.0 rather the re-install? It's been a while since I installed Ultimate Edition 2.8 on several dual boot machines and I have customized a lot of programs and settings and would hate to go thru that whole process again. I know the Ubuntu upgrade was warned against and I did not do that but upgrading from one version of Ultimate Edition to a new version without a complete re-install would be nice. TheeMann once told me it was possible in the IRC chat room.

I am running 2.8 on a custom machine and tried the 3.0 live CD and had many issues which I have already fixed in 2.8 don't want to spend the hour it took the first time to work these things out. Not complaining it's just a pain to do this and Linux will not be what it could be until this issue is "Not an issue"

Thanks,

Tom

I have re-installed many times. I have got it down to a science. The best way is to do a fresh install. Start from scratch. Why don't you try a usb install.

Isn't that special, Mr or Mrs, pch.shot from Canada does not get the point and I don't want to flame him\her here.

I asked a question about how to upgrade and would like an answer yes or no. Is it possible? As TheeMann told me it was in the IRC chat room?

Not sure why this shows as only my second post since I have posted here many times going back to V2.2

Hi Tank997,
Unfortunately you cannot upgrade from 2.8 to 3.0.
I do agree that it would be 'nice' but there are far too many changes with the release of 3.0.
You are more than welcome to try but it will leave your system in a mess.

Please don't shoot the messenger. :)

The way I understand it 3.0 is partially based on Linux Mint

I have been running Mint and their recommendation is always reinstall instead of upgrade

I may be wrong but a full install should be much better especially with 3.0 containing Mint and Ubuntu

No,yes, you are correct. The upgrade takes longer than a nice clean fresh install from a usb stick.
