Emerald themes not in ~/.emerald

Postby choc » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:58 am

Umm, upon opening the emerald theme manager I noticed that there was no themes.

I then checked ~/.emerald/themes and there was all the directories of the many themes that normally come with a Ultimate Edition release, except they were all EMPTY DIRECTORIES.

This is strange, if you need help finishing a distro before you release it let me know, I can beta test and script themes and make sure directories have their appropriate theme files in them.

You guys have a great idea here (the fattest stinkin linux distro there is, most themes, most apps) but when you miss simple things like that it makes me think you need some help.

I appreciate your work but this distro is bug ridden and sloppy at best, if you need help to work through kinks and polish up some of your theme/interface/icon/art/basic scripting/beta testing/etc issues let me know.

-----------------------EDIT 'FIX''-----------------------------------------------------------------

This isnt an actual 'bug' its just a slight mishap in the creation of the distro, files not being where they should be.. ahem.

FIX;

Code: Select all
 sudo cp -rf /usr/share/emerald/themes/ ~/.emerald/

That should work or you could just do it in the file manager (nautilus) Just copy all the files in /usr/share/emerald/themes/ into your ~/.emerald/themes/ directory. This will fill all the empty theme directories and will make all the themes show up when you start emerald theme manager. If theres any issues with this let me know, Im doing this off the top of my head from a computer away from home (with my UE3.0 install).

Everyone can use help from time to time....If you have discovered bugs or things that need fixing, that you know how to fix, why not post them on the forum, in the form of a detailed "How-To" That would be helpful to everyone!

I am beginning to think this is an issue created by Ubuntu, I don't think emerald is fully supported in 11.04 and beyond. I am also hearing that Compiz is dropping support for it, but that may or may not be true.

At this point it is correct about the end of the use of Emerald with the systems to come.
For now you can try to get it to work from the Guide here:
http://www.webupd8.org/2009/03/ubuntu-i ... ompiz.html

One more option for you (at this point of time).

Good Luck.

Emerald is a dead project and is no longer maintained. It will be replaced with Jasper.
I had a similar issue when compiling Onyx64 and resolved it with the following.
Try it and see if it fixes your Emerald issues.

There is no real 'fix' for it, cause its not a bug, its just well, lazyness.

The .emerald configs are in the /usr/share/emerald/themes/ directory and you copy that dir to your ~/.emerald/themes/ directory to get all the emerald themes installed with the distro to show up in emerald theme manager.

Laziness, Choc ?
Really?
Considering how much effort goes into compiling Ultimate Edition I think that's a bit pert!
An oversight it may have been, but neither TheeMahn nor the other developers are lazy.
$#!% happens mate, deal with it!

I am, and have 'dealt with it', I posted a fix and offered to iron out mishaps like this before future releases.

I appreciate the work the developers do in putting together this distro, but in my opinion, if you put something in a release, like 40(or so) custom .emerald themes, they should at least be there when you install. If the job is too big for the dev team to handle they should ask for help beta testing from the community or cut out some of the non-essentials to make sure the release works as intended.

Lazyness? oh forsure, is it a bad thing? Hell no, im the lazyest bastard around. However, the bottom line is, this distro needs help ironing out oversights before release such as this, and I offered my help instead of being an asshat about it.

Keep up the good work....
