Although it wont fix your issue and is a slight bit off-topic, I prefer to have my primary drive holding nothing but my O/S's and applications then using my secondary drive for nothing but data (music, videos, photos etc..). This way, every O/S has easy access to data. Grub controls access beautifully and if it ever goes astray, it's very easy to recover with a live cd/dvd.
