Postby mcgo » Wed Mar 23, 2011 1:05 pm

Still use a parallel port printer needed for CAD/Corel(read work-toy engineering), the printer aplet didn work in
live mode, cannot configure LPT1 and did a search through the 2.8/9 forums as well as Ubuntu 10.10
forums, no light there. Anyone know of solutions/suggestions?

I found this on a RedHat forum so don't know if it will work but worth a try:

When I installed it, I simply went into printtool and installed it as
> an "HP Deskjet 550C/560C/6xxC Series" printer.

This is in reference to you 870cxi

Or possibly this link to an HP 870C thread at linuxquestions

And this one at Open Printing

This is a new issue and posts from 2005 are a little old. Faced dificulties in previous
editions, but nothing like this! Everything indicates that hplip installed, but the OS
can't see LPT1. Thx for the reply <BREW>

I realized that they were a little old, but the only thing I could find referring to your printer in Linux/Debian. Hoped it would help to some extent. Maybe someone else has newer information on this issue.
