Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.8

how to change splash screen

Postby coggi008 » Sun Jan 09, 2011 10:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I have tried several suggestions posted on this forum to change the splash screen with no luck. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. BTW. I think ultimate edition is the most cutting edge distro avail. and it has made me want to put together my own. Thanks for everyone's hard work. Thanks Themahn for putting it together.

I'm running Ultimate Edition 2.8
x86
dell vostro1500

I want to change from the world horizon to this

Anyone who has had success changing it, I would really appreciate some input.

Hello coggi008 and welcome to Ultimate Edition ! <BREW> I am sorry to tell you that what you want to do is not possible, you want to install xsplash But Ultimate Edition 2.8 (as well as any ubuntu flavor of maverick) uses Plymouth splash, both the plymouth splash and gdm are incorporated together for faster boot times, At this point you can change the Plymouth splash by opening a terminal and run these commands
here, choose the number of the theme you want to use then hit enter
Code: Select all
sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth

Then
Code: Select all
sudo update-initramfs -u

and to change your login screen appearance I recommend Python gdm2

If you need further assistance just give a holler ! ;) :D :ugeek:
