My dual boot saga or....

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.7

My dual boot saga or....

Postby tittiger » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:22 am

My experience at trying to dual boot Windows and Ubuntu or: WHY PEOPLE HATE WINDOZE

I installed Unbuntu Ultimate Edition to the hard drive after using GParted to create separate Windows, Data, Ubuntu partitions.

Using the Ubuntu boot loader I choose the partition with the Windows image loader on it and it then installed Windows on the correct partition thank goodness as it did not let me choose where to install it as I recall. It rebooted and I was glad that it did not stomp the Ubuntu boot loader.
I choose Windows and it booted into Windows. So far so good.

Then some app from hell came up. I think it said it was the "Best Buy" updater. It said it was mandatory and when I choose the No or close button ( I forget which) it ignored me and started to update and DL software anyhow. Then the SOB rebooted my machine without asking, stomped on the Ubuntu boot loader. (Fu*k if I know
why or how) It also stomped it's own boot loader and just kept cycling and cycling trying to boot. Reshowing the starting windows splash screen again and again.

Why the F*&^C can't Microcrap just provide the install disks and stop all this happy horse $#!%?
(NOTE: This all began when I spent 5 days trying to resize the C: partition using MS tools and finally gave up and nuked it with GParted - data and all)

Then I had to boot to the Live Ultimate Edition and don't know how to repair the boot manger (any ideas?) So I have
to reinstall Ubuntu then go reinstall Windows and try to head off the OS from hell from self destructing for a second time.

I am considering installing Windows first and seeing how that works. Opps!! I forgot I no longer have a MS boot loader at all!! (Any ideas here that don't involve another
week of my time?)

End of rant about Micro-crap

Thanks!

Thanks I found the Super Grub ISO.

As far as I really feel... I bite my tongue as I would probably be
arrested if I let my full anger at Micro-Crap fly.

Keep making Linux distros easier to use and you will some day see a
mass exodus from their garbage, expensive, controlled OS.

I think what Apple has done with a Linux kernel shows what can be done.
Can you imagine the success of a FREE Apple like OS? Ultimate Edition could be it some day!

Thanks I burned both of those ISO's and it looks like they will be invaluable.
