That confirms to me that the 2.6.34-Lucid is a complete kernel and update manager should have installed it. Thus the question remains why does it not ? Is just something that I don't understand and wonder if more users are asking themselves why a complete kernel is not installed by update manager.

Anyway , your how-to works perfect thanx Amir. ;) Had no issues with the manual install. :D
I'm just tickled as to why update manager mis it.

Mazal,

I'm my point of understanding the issue it is part of Dependence with packages that can make conflict with others.
What I try to say is , just for makes my Answers more sharp for you is,
Not any Gnome system has the same packages index OK.
Distro's compile allot of packages from rpm,tar.gz....
At the end it will be deb,apt-get and so on.
Now the Distro will not compile package that will have conflict with other software for example.
It's not that the user will not use the specific 2 packages that can tern your system apart,
This is just something that Distro will not allow even the smallest option to crash the user machine.
Way?
The answer is clear to you.
The update manager will update the Kernel as the Distro Builder will decided and pic the best "working Kernel" for the Distro, After all the team made allots of testing all over the software ,plug ins and so on.
when all the testers + the Distro Builder's will see that all is good= then the Distro is ready for the Release with the chosen Kernel.
Then After some time they will make some more tests for the next Kernel that will be updated on the update manager.

one of the reasons that Thee add few Kernels to the Distro on the same time (smart move from him),
Is to let PPL that the Kernel is hight for there machine to go back to stable Kernel that support there Hardware.

Slopoke.

It looks like you run to fast for the reinstall option.
some times I can be late with the Answer to the user that is correct,
But to learn the U.E System you need some petitioned , and spend some time with the understanding what made the mess on the issue.
This is the best way to learn the system Slopoke.
BTW -I know one more Person that like the beer! <BREW> <BREW> ;)

Now thats good!! Yea, I ought to know what to do when I get the terminal prompt. Just lost it for a brain crash. I have reinstall down to 20 minutes with back ups. Wasn't hard. Got all the files and updates on DVD.
We used to do a lot of that Rolling Rock. Now I'm a Molson kinda guy. Thank for your continued interest.
