As a side note DO NOT USE THE CLEANUP kernals, packages or cache, AT THIS POINT IT WILL WIPE OUT ALL YOUR APPS !! all other functions are OK ! If you wish to clean your system do this ! and follow Admin-Amirs tut viewtopic.php?f=66&t=4420&p=49141&hilit=clean+old+kernels#p49141

Heh... wish I'd seen this before I did that very thing earlier today... and watched it kill app after app after app after app.... but you know what... in a way that wasn't a horrible thing. I was left with a very functional system and all apps that were left work... and it didn't touch anything I'd custom installed. All I really had to do was reinstall Wine and the nonfree fonts and I was good to go. Smaller menus now, but hey.

I just updated to the 6.34 kernel, as well as installed the newer tweak **tips hat to 2hot6ft2**
Tweak is working much better now, but after picking the applications that I want to install (namely swiftfox per admin-amir's suggestion in tips & fixes, xorg updates, and flash PPA updates), I get the following error (which I also get if I just run from the update manager):

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

An error occurred

The following details are provided:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the list directory

It should be noted that I am an ubuntu/linux user as of 2 days ago, so this may be a completely n00b question. Be gentle, I'm working on it.

In the event that it is important:
Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
GNOME: 2.30.0
Kernel: 2.6.34-020634-generic
AMD Athlon(TheeMahn) 64 Processor 3700+
Freq: 2211.340 MHz
L2: 1024 KB
Mem: 2009 MiB
Swap Mem: 5886 MiB
nVidia G80 (GeForce 8800 GTS) rev a2

Hello kai and welcome to the U.E Fotum.

First I understand that you have install the New package for the Ubuntu Tweak.
Now you have add the packages from the 3 party, then you have add those issues.
Noe did you have update/Upgrade the system in the terminal?
Did you have add the auto keys from the Ubuntu Tweak ?

Swiftfox
add to the source list:

Code: Select all
deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free
deb-src http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free

save in the source list and close.
Then run ;
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get upgrade

this issue can come up if Ubuntu Tweak Team are doing some update/Upgrade for packages on the Repo's.
So please try again After 6-8 hours and all will work fine I hope.

Amir,
I followed the instructions, and when running apt-get update in Terminal, I got the following:

~$ sudo apt-get update
Get:1 http://ppa.launchpad.net lucid Release.gpg [307B]
Ign http://ppa.launchpad.net/akirad/akirad/ubuntu/ lucid/main Translation-en_US
Get:2 http://security.ubuntu.com lucid-security Release.gpg [189B]
Ign http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Translation-en_US
Get:3 http://archive.canonical.com lucid Release.gpg [189B]
Ign http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ lucid/partner Translation-en_US
Get:4 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com lucid Release.gpg [189B]
Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Translation-en_US
96% [Waiting for headers] [Waiting for headers] [Waiting for headers] [Waiting

It will hang at 96% until I ctrl+C out.

Hello kai .

the Ubuntu Repo are Updating for 3 Days now.
I had 500 packages Updated on the last 3 Days , So just hold on there and try again one more time.
The issue is not the U.E problem - This is servers Updating time.
